Spotify and Ricochet Present: Music Loves Art A Special Event Series at Ricochet Lounge
Miami, Fla. (Nov. 22, 2011) – Spotify, the largest and fastest-growing music service of its kind, has joined forces with Ricochet, Midtown Miami’s newest culture-centric bar and lounge, to bring a one-of-a-kind series where art and music meet, at this year’s Art Basel festival. Set to debut on December 1–4, Spotify and Ricochet will showcase a special line-up for art and music lovers, alike. The series of four events, in association with sponsors Perrier® Sparkling Natural Mineral Water and SOL REPUBLIC, will bring world-renowned visual artists, performers and DJs together each night including live performances by Nas, Theophilus London, TV on the Radio and Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings who will sip on 42BELOW® signature cocktails.
Visual artists will host the early portion of each night, featuring video and performance art. Special artists of the series include Luis Gispert, Rashid Johnson and Kalup Linzy. Linzy, who works simultaneously with James Franco, will introduce a video art piece he created with Franco. In addition, Mickalene Thomas and friends will host a special event that will focus on women’s arts and music, and Daniel Fishel will create a one-of-a-kind AriZona Beverages installation that will be displayed all four nights. Spotify music will bring the art exhibits to life by featuring the visual artist’s personal playlists with the music that has inspired them most. Each night following the visual artist, a music performer will take the stage, shifting the focus from art to live music, concluding with a live DJ set at the end of each night.
“Music and art are two of the most important ways to express inner feelings and thoughts. Both are one in the same, which gives you the opportunity to be free and easy,” says Nas, one of the featured musicians of the Spotify/ Ricochet series.
VICE will document these one-of-a-kind events in a four-part original series that will premiere on VICE.com in early December. Entitled VICE Meets Spotify Live, the video series will feature interviews and candid moments with the artists and musicians, interwoven with event footage to bring life to the dynamic relationship between art and music.
